a great idea for a blogging web site.. is it enough?

Posted on the February 10th, 2012 under blogging by

because there are so many blogs and web sites about blogs on the internet, it can be tough to distinguish your blogging web site from all of the others. whether you are starting up a new web site aimed at bloggers or whether you are looking to make your existing blogging site more distinctive, the key to building and maintaining a site that will capture the interest and attention of the blogging community is finding your niche. if you can fill a unique need in a way that no other web site does, you’ll be able to build a lasting readership among web surfers. once you have discovered a niche, you will still have a lot to do, but finding your place in the blogosphere is the place to begin.

every great blogging web site starts with a great idea, and you can’t build a successful site that will last without one. there are many great sites aimed at today’s bloggers, and competition for the attention of this growing demographic is fierce. to make your blogging web site stand out from the pack, you will need to offer something that no other site is currently offering, or you will need to do the same thing that an already popular site does but in a more impressive or valuable way.

one way to discover an ideal model for your blogging web site is to look at the sites that have successfully captured a blogging audience already to determine if you can appropriate some of their strategies to help realize your vision. of course, you will also need to add a unique flair to your project in order to stand apart from your competition. many people agree that the web sites that do the best in today’s market are the sites that have the most personality. the fiercely individual surfers who are bloggers are a demographic that responds especially strongly to personality, so consider how you can give your site a unique and attractive feeling by lending your own voice and sensibility to your site’s design and content.

once you have a great idea for your site, have pinpointed a special niche that you are well equipped to fill, and have infused the site with personality, the next step is figuring out how to get the word out to bloggers. in the long run, a great idea just isn’t enough to propel your blogging web site to success. You will need to draft a smart and realistic marketing plan in order to draw readers to your site. Once you hook a blogger, your great content will keep them coming back, but it is vital to get that first glance or your site won’t have a chance to shine.

life mapping: a vision of SUCCESS

Posted on the February 7th, 2012 under personal, self improvement by

success is more than just economic gains, titles, and degrees.. having a vision of success means for you to have some sort of planning for success @ life mapping all the aspects that matters in your life. what i call it is self-evaluation.. similar to a map, you need to define the following details of your life – origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route..

origin – who you are..

let's start somewhere..

a map has a starting point. your origin is who and where you are right now.. **hmm.. right now i’m in front of the computer writing this post.. hmm.. let’s see now.. hmm.. hehe, just kidding ^_^ ..** anyways, jokes aside.. most people when asked to introduce myself, i would say, “hi, i’m Shaz and i’m a root cause analyst..” simple, right? however, it does not tell you about who i am; it only tells you my present.. err.. well, it just tells you who i am and what i do for a living.. now, to gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status.. moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and.. well.. not-so-good traits – skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. upon “further investigation“, i realized that i am highly passionate, generous, service-oriented, but i do get bullied or be stepped-on.. some say i am being “too diplomatic“.. oh yea, another thing.. i also have this thing called procrastination.. hehe.. i have an inclination towards the technical field and area of expertise.. i also like to analyse stuffs and think a lot, in which does take a lot of my time.. doing just that – thinking!! furthermore, i believe that life must serve a purpose, and that wars were destructive to everyone..

destination – a vision of who you want to be..

where do i go from here?

“Who do you want to be?” – now THIS is your visionnnn.. it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer picture of who you want to be; and the things you want to change – whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view. if you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. there’s no harm for you to seek advise and ask around those closest to you – be it your best buddy or family or relatives or your co-workers.. maybe they see certain potential in you in becoming someone you would have never thought of :-) your destination should cover all the aspects of your being – physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.. continuing with my story, after i have defined @ re-evaluated my beliefs, values, and principles in life, i decided that i wanted to have a balanced lifestyle and a certain extend of freedommmmmm..**wait a minute, does this means i’m still not that clear of who do i want to be?! daymn!! well, nevermind that.. i can always do this after i finish writing this post**.. moving on..

vehicle – your mission..

nice ride eh?

a vehicle is the means by which you can reach your destination. simply said, what it takes for you to get from point A to point B :-) it can correspond to your mission or career in life.. to a great extent, your MISSION.. **suddenly the script from Mission Impossible is running thru my head, dunno why – your mission agent Shaz, is to retrive bla bla bla yap yap yap yada yada yada.. ok.. enough of that.. for now** yes, your MISSION would depend on what you know about yourself. based on my simple self-assessment done above, i decided that i would most suited to become .. err.. an internet billionaire entrepreneur @ motivator @ trainer, and that i wanted to become one!! honestly, i never have thought of what i wanted to become, career wise.. until quite recently… describing my vision-mission fully, it was to live a life dedicated to serving the internet world in conflict-areas.. yes! i want to help others solve their problems and achieve what they want in life!

travel bag – knowledge, skills, and attitude..

where do u think u're going?

food, drinks, medicines, and other traveling necessities are contained in a bag. applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes.. these determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision. given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way. this two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success. i realized that she needed to gain professional knowledge and skills on what works on the internet so that i could help others and at the same time be financially free @ internet entrepreneur.. i know that i procrastinate, so, i realized that this was something i REALLY want to change.. **boo hoo sob sob.. please bare with me on this, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…**

landmarks and route – S.M.A.R.T. objectives..

i gotta be .S.M.A.R.T.

landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines the travel time. thus, in planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. these landmarks are your measures of success @ targets. these measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound a.k.a SMART! you cannot set two major landmarks such as earning a master’s degree and a doctorate’s degree within a period of three years, since the minimum number of years to complete a master’s degree is two years.. and i have no idea how long it would take to complete a doctorate’s degree.. as an example, i have identified the following landmarks in my life map – completing my bachelor’s degree by the age of 25 (i did it when i was 24); earning a certain amount of salary by the age of 27 (sorry but i’d prefer not to disclose this.. i feel that there are people out there who does the same job AND earns more than i do – in which i achieved by the age of 28.. yup, i was a year off but at least i got it!!); cutting down my debts by 50% by the age of 30 (again, i was a year off for this one (i was 31) but to tell you the truth, i achieved a drop of about 75% in my debts.. if you’d like to know how, i can teach you.. it’s tough and time consuming but it is REALLY worth the effort and patience :-) ); zero debts by the age of 33; owning a property by the age of 34; marriage by the age of 35..??;.. and the list goes on.. i’ve yet to set my landmarks and route past age of 50..

anticipate turns, detours, and potholes..

the purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the-moment decisions that can make you lose your way.. but often, there are times our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations that is wayyy beyond our control.. like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes therefore; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly.. but most importantly, always do what matters most to you :-)

using a free blogging web site

Posted on the February 2nd, 2012 under blogging by

for first time bloggers, a free blogging web site is a great way to get started in the blogosphere. popular blogging web sites like Blogger and WordPress allow users to set up and host a blog without paying any fees at all. this encourages people to start blogging, because the fact that one of these sites can provide you with all of the tools that you need to get your blog up and running without spending any money. this also means that you have nothing to lose by starting a blog. the fact that it is so easy to find a way to blog for free, it has become one of the reasons why so many people who have never had any other kind of web presence before find themselves drawn to blogging.

by signing up with a free blogging web site, you may find it easier to get listed in search engines that you would if you were starting your own blog from scratch. for example, Google runs the free blog hosting site Blogspot and crawls its pages very often looking for updates, so if you have your site hosted by Blogspot, you are almost guaranteed to be listed on Google’s blog search engine. this easy  access to search engines can take some of the work out of promoting your blog, and can help you gain a following with a minimum of marketing effort.

starting your blog on a free blogging web site is a great way to build a following before you spend any money on your blog. if and when your blog becomes popular, and you are ready to take the next step and purchase your own domain, your readers will follow you to your new home. i started off with a few blogs using blogspot in the past years and finally i decided to move on to my own domain here. i may not have much readership from my previous blogs but it helps me to know what sort of readers that comes by and reads my blog.

if your blog attracts a large readership, you may want to consider moving your site. many people feel that being hosted by a free logging web site gives a blog a kind of amateur flavour. that is fine for a new member of the blogosphere, but is not appropriate for a high-profile blog. having your own domain can help you make your blog feel professional, and finding a company that will host your domain is not difficult or expensive. once your blog takes off, you will probably be able to sell enough advertising space to be able to afford to buy a domain and pay for a hosting package, and still have money left over. however, it does not make sense, in most cases, to invest in these glossy luxuries before you have a sizable readership.
